Program Description

The Literacy Connection’s primary essential services that are provided are Basic literacy and English language instruction for adults who are at the lowest levels of proficiency. We offers learner-centered instruction in settings that meet individual needs. In the Adult Volunteer Literacy Program, we provides free literacy and English language tutoring to adults. The twelve-hour tutor training teaches volunteers to help individuals learn to read, write, speak and understand English better. Instruction is offered in any public location at convenient times. Most learners are tutored at a minimum of four hours each month. When funded, the Family Literacy Program provides English language instruction to adults in their children’s school setting. Programming includes parent/child activities, school partnerships and components that teach adults to help their children succeed in school. The Workplace Literacy Program provides paid instruction for employees at their workplace to help them improve their English and their work skills. All programs encourage adults to pursue further educational or work training opportunities with other providers.
